Don’t it always seem to go, that you don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone?

I did not realize I had a bus girlfriend until this morning. I was
doing my usual semi-concious stare out the window on the eastbound leg
of my commute when I felt my heart jump into my throat. The bus had
just finished loading and the driver was waiting for the light to
change when I saw a couple dashing towards the bus. They were wearing
similar transitional season overcoats and moving at a pace that
implied they were in this together. As they came into clearer focus I
thought “OMG, she has a boyfriend!? How can this be? What?? No way!”
Yes, the woman formerly known to me as Hardware Babe due to her many
earrings and other jewelry including a wallet chain was dashing across
the street and getting on the bus and sitting next to, a dude! It was
then I realized that I had been secretly lusting after her and being
very happy every time I saw her on the bus. It was then I realized she
was my bus girlfriend and contrary to her prior off-the-charts gayness
reading was not actually “family.” How? Why? We were meant to be
together? Where did he come from? Wait a sec, that’s NOT her
boyfriend, it’s Occasionally Overly Accessorized and/or Too Much Hair
Product Gay Boy. They aren’t together! Maybe they are just roommates,
or neighbors. When the bus stopped to unload for the southbound leg of
my commute they got off and I followed wondering if today should be a
train day so I might profess my newly discovered lust for her. That’s
when I saw Really Neat and Thin Coffee Guy . . .

Wow. You had a secret girlfriend so secret that not even *you* knew who she was…impressive! Think how many other secret girlfriends you may have out in the world!

I hate it when secret girlfriends fail to tell you that they’re your girlfriend, and then they feel all neglected and ignored and go out and find someone else even before you even knew you had a girlfriend. Sigh. Don’t even secret relationships stand a chance in this world anymore?

It’s a sobering fact that nearly half of all secret relationships end in equally as secretive circumstances.

Straight girls don’t wear wallet chains. You’re safe. It’s gotta be her roommate. Or brother.
