Father of the Pride

Roy has the strength of a thousand men...Now I was catching up on a little TiVo last night and watched Maria Shriver’s exclusive interview with Siegfried & Roy, Masters of the Impossible (acronym=SOMATI). This was broadcast on Wednesday night, Roy’s 60th birthday and the first anniversary of the ‘attack’ by Montecore.

Most shocking relvelation: Roy believes because of his existing high blood pressure, that he had a stroke on stage that night, thus causing his ‘unexplainable’ fall. Montecore, sensing he was in trouble, carried him off-stage like he would a cub (pup?) and then assumed his place to continue the show. Roy believes Montecore saved his life. He visits Montecore once a week and he continues his physical therapy all day, six days a week.

Most irritating trend: Granted, Siegfried and Roy speak with accents and occasional broken English (lest we forget Siegfried defending Montecore on Larry King last year: “If Montecore had wanted to kill Roy, he would be not here!” Not the Queen’s English, but certainly understandable and endearing.) Roy’s accent, compounded with a massive stroke does leave network executives a little scared that’s he’s a tad hard to understand given the partial paralysis of his face, but if one concentrates, he can be understood. But Maria repeated every single answer Roy gave.

Roy: “I live every day to the fullest.”
Maria: “So you’re saying you live every day to the fullest.”
Roy: “I enjoy live more now than every before.”
Maria: “So you enjoy life now more than before?”

And on and on. Siegfried & Roy were gracious—they do have a long-standing friendship with Maria Shriver and husband Arnold Schwarzenegger. They supposedly called a couple times a day from Sacramento as Arnold was being inaugurated.

Anyone seen Father of the Pride? I’ve heard mixed reviews, but will try and check it out next week.

Go Roy!!!

Well, and we all know how it was “nip and tuck” there for a while.

I was really excited with the first episode of Father of the Pride. They had tons of laugh out loud lines. But the second episode was a bore. The jokes felt forces and I barely laughed. Hopefully subsequent episodes get better.
