I’ve spent my life exploring the subtle whoring that costs too much to be free

Hey, it’s Mirandala.org’s first participation in a meme!* Heretofore we’ve been a big ol’ Meme Virgin. Well, let’s close our eyes and get through it, eh?

Music Meme Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to name 3 songs you remember from elementary school, middle school and high school.

Elementary school:

1. Rick Dees – Disco Duck
2. Melissa Manchester – Don’t Cry Out Loud
3. Olivia Newton-John – Hopelessly Devoted to You

Middle school:

1. Rick Springfield – Jesse’s Girl
2. Juice Newton – Queen of Hearts
3. Charlene – I’ve Never Been to Me

High school:

1. El DeBarge – Who’s Johnny?
2. Eurythmics – Would I Lie to You?
3. Nena – 99 Luftballons

– yeah, yeah, i know, these songs date me. But if you remember them too, maybe *you* could date me…

and

2 Songs No One Would Ever Guess I Have:

1. Yma Sumac – The Whip Song
2. Celine Dion – It’s All Coming Back to Me Now (oh, I’m so ashamed…)

What are yours?

* “What the f*ck is a meme?!” I hear you ask. Well, it’s a contagious idea. You know – you hear something funny or interesting and you pass it on to a couple of people and so do they and then wham!bang! suddenly everyone knows what’s the what. On the internet these things spread particularly fast. Go here for more definitions.

I have to run off to a meeting, but I’ll certainly fill in my songs later.

As a special bonus to the readers of Mirandala.org, here’s a fun fact:

Miranda and I first became friends in 1989 when Miranda was thumbing through my 45’s. Although *some* derogatory comments were made (I do regret some song purchases), I was the proud owner of Charlene’s hit ‘I’ve Never Been to Me’—I learned later that Miranda knew then I must be a person of quality to own such a song. I hope you all know it—it’s a true classic…especially the spoken part.

    [spoken]
Hey, you know what paradise is?
It’s a lie, a fantasy we create about people and places as we’d like them to be…

It’s true. Court and I first bonded over a one-hit wonder. Can you blame us, though? Who wouldn’t be touched by such lyrics?

    I’ve been undressed by kings
and I’ve seen some things that a woman ain’t s’posed to see
Oh, I’ve been to paradise but I’ve never been to me…
